We have several calls over the last few days from customers saying they have been called by Microsoft because either -.

1. Their “security license” has run out and they need to renew it for £60.00 , or

2. Their Windows installation is out of warranty and needs updating for £60.00, or

3. Their computer has a been hacked and they need to log onto it to check the error report. For £60.00.

From what I can tell, the caller doesn’t always use the word Microsoft, but states they are “from Windows” allowing it to be assumed they are from Microsoft. Having asked around in various forums, it seems that there are a lot of people in the UK receiving these calls..

They are not from Microsoft. The call is fraudulent. They are simply trying to get permission to log on to your PC and set you up with false security software for a fee. This access may be for more worrying use, but I’ve yet to see a machine that this has been done to. .

If you do get a call from them, obviously do not agree to give them access to your PC or laptop. If possible, try and get details of who they are, what they are selling and their phone number. I would be grateful for any such information.
